Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (Kathmandu University)

Four and a half year long undergraduate degree, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery offered by Kathmandu University is followed by one year of internship training. The criterion and standards embraced by the KU are in strict adherence to the necessities of Nepal Medical Council.

The KUMS Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery has been split into 3 parts: the initial 2-year of study comprises of primary medical sciences and introduction to clinical sciences. In the latter two and a half years, they study the skills & principles of clinical medicine. In the final year, students are provided with internship.

Objective

Admission Requirements

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Candidates should be over seventeen years of age.
  • Candidates should have completed +2 or Intermediate of Science with Chemistry, Physics, Biology and English as major subjects and should have acquired minimum of 50% in all the subjects or should have completed BSC degree.

Entrance Test:

Applicant should face an entrance test administered as per the course for Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery Entrance Exams published by the Ministry of Education.

Admission Modality:

Candidates who have passed KUMET test and meet other criteria are eligible to take admission.

Scope and Career Prospects

MBBS grads are qualified doctors & surgeons who have both theoretical & practical skills and knowledge about the various areas of medicine. Thus, they will have no problem finding jobs. Some of the organizations that hire MBBS graduates are universities, air ambulance services, residential nursing homes, private healthcare establishments, clinical trial organizations, hospital/research institutes, overseas aid agencies and the armed forces.

Job Prospects:

MBBS is a vocation degree that equips students with the practical & clinical abilities particular to medicine along with the personal and professional attributes required to be a successful doctor. After completing this degree, one can work as:

  • Physician associate
  • Hospital doctor
  • General practice doctor

However, there are other options too. Grads can work as research scientist, solicitor, science writer, medical educational consultant, higher education lecturer, health promotion specialist and health service manager, healthcare scientist to name a few.
