Bachelor of Dental Surgery | TU

Tribhuvan University (TU) offers a dynamic bachelor's degree program in the field of science called Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS). This program lasts for approximately 4 and a half years and is based on a semester system, comprising of 9 full semesters. It falls under the faculty of Medical and Allied Sciences.

The program consists of three main elements: Integrated Basic Medical Science, Clinical Medical Science, and Clinical Dental Science. During the initial 2 years of the program, students learn pre-clinical laboratory techniques, dental Material Science, and Community Dentistry. In the latter two years, they are exposed to clinical dentistry, which addresses various dental medical issues from a fundamental perspective.

Objectives of Bachelor of Dental Surgery

Upon completion of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery program, the Dental Surgery Graduate should be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the principles and practices of modern dentistry, with in-depth knowledge of the structure and functions of the human body in both normal and diseased states.
  • Pursue further dental education programs and engage in research.
  • Exhibit an understanding of contemporary knowledge and skills in the field.
  • Possess the qualities of a socially responsible individual.
  • Fulfill work responsibilities with concern and care.
  • Identify common dental health issues, provide initial management, seek guidance from senior professionals when necessary, or refer to appropriate healthcare institutions.
  • Provide oral health education to individuals.
  • Participate in vaccination programs, dental health initiatives, and health camps.
  • Give special attention and care to children, women, and senior citizens.

Admission Requirements in Bachelor of Dental Surgery

Qualification Criteria for Admission:

Age:

The applicant  for the Bachelor program must be at least 17 years old and must not exceed 25 years old.

Qualification:

Eligibility Criteria for Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) under Tribhuvan University are:

Studying Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects and achieving a minimum of 50% or 2.4 CGPA/GPA in total in +2 from a recognized educational institution.

Or

Students with qualification in A-level or an equivalent grading system, studying Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects and achieving a minimum of 50% or 2.4 CGPA/GPA in total or its equivalent are eligible.

Or

In health science-related qualifications or diplomas (General Medicine, Medical Laboratory Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Radiography, Ayurveda, Physiotherapy), obtaining a minimum of 50% aggregate marks or equivalent in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology subjects, as well as achieving a minimum of 50% or 2.4 CGPA/GPA from the National Examination Board in Class 12 Science Group or its equivalent, and being registered with the relevant council will be necessary.

Selection Criteria:

The selection of students will be based on merit in the competitive entrance examination conducted by the Institute of Medicine (T.U.).

Foreign students are not required to appear for the entrance exam. They should secure a minimum of 50% of the total marks with subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, English, and Biology.
