M.Phil. - Master of Philosophy (Tribhuvan University)
Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) offered by the Tribhuvan University is designed to provide participants with research training in a way that fosters their research skills. The program intends to produce academically sound and highly qualified manpower in diverse areas, including Administration, Management, Supervision, Educational Planning and Curriculum.
The Master of Philosophy program is divided into three semesters. The program consists of Core Courses, Specialization Courses and Dissertation. Participants have the option to specialize in areas such as Leadership Studies, Development Studies and Curriculum Studies. Participants with Master in Education degree can complete this program within thirty-two credit hours whereas participants with a master degree in other disciplines should undertake thirty-six credit hours of full-time study. The program covers courses, such as Basic Statics, Research Methods, Education and Development, Foundations of Education, advanced Research Methods, Leadership in Education, Resource Management among others. In the final semester, participants need to carry out thesis work with the help of academic advisor. Since the program targets the working individuals, classes are held in the evening from 4 to 8 PM.
Central Department of Management Tribhuvan University is the only academic institution offering Master of Philosophy program in Nepal under TU's affiliation. It is located in Kritipur, Kathmandu, Bagmati.
The major objectives of Master of Philosophy program is to produce graduates who possess the capability to formulate an important issues, the capacity to eloquent and critical analysis and mastery of suitable theoretical and methodological framework. Some of the specific objectives of this program are listed below:
- To enhance participants' critical thinking.
- To prepare participants for life-long learning and research.
To be eligible to apply for the Master of Philosophy program, the applicant must fulfill the following criteria:
- Should have a master degree in any discipline however, Master in Education is preferred with minimum of second division from the board or university accepted by the Tribhuvan University.
- Applicant should be able to speak and write English proficiently and have knowledge in computer operation.
Admission notice is published in the month of January and July, each year - one month prior to the commencement of class. A candidate wishing to pursue this program will have to go through a robust process of screening and selection. Candidates need to face an entrance examination followed by oral interview.
Except for some other minor contingencies, the total tuition fee of the Master of Philosophy program is eighty thousand rupees. Students should pay fees in three installments of Rs. twenty-five thousand. However, in the first semester, rs. 30,000 will be charged including Rs. five thousand admission fee.
