MSc Clinical Microbiology | TU

Master of Science in clinical microbiology by Tribhuvan University (TU) is basically a 3 year period degree which comes under Institute of Medicine (IOM). The Board examination of this degree is based on annual system i.e. this program is not based on the semester system. The main executive body for running day to day administration as per the academic calendar is Institute of Medicine (IOM) whereas Master of Science in Microbiology is a two year program. Master of Science in Microbiology is based on the semester system.

This esteemed degree is attractive to those students who have completed their bachelor level training in medical education and wish to continue formal qualification in Clinical Microbiology. Tribhuvan University (TU) has designed this program in order to enable the new entrants to study effectively in this field and also for the update and extension for those who are already in this field. This program aims to provide students the entire needed theoretical knowledge, laboratory familiarity, and applied aspects of the discipline and information of associated subjects like molecular biology.

Objectives of MSc Clinical Microbiology

The major objectives of this program are listed below:

  • To provide student the extreme knowledge as well as experience in all aspects of this program and make students well familiar with the latest development in clinical microbiology.
  • Help to develop the careers of clinicians and other professionals who are interested in working in the field of microbiology.
  • To produce graduates who have capacity to efficiently manage and lead the clinical microbiology laboratories properly, which are totally equipped and fully staffed.
  • To produce trained graduates who can analyze and evaluate various national level disease control program and other related programs which has strategic importance in fighting with the disease.

Admission Requirements in MSc Clinical Microbiology

Admission requirement for Admission:

  • The students must have to successfully complete B Sc. MLT/BMLT or B.Sc. Microbiology or B.V.Sc. and AH or MBBS/BDS/BAMS or equivalent degree from Tribhuvan University (T.U) or from any Board/ University, which is recognized by Tribhuvan University (T.U) along with one year compulsory internship and the candidates should have to be Registered in Nepal Medical Council (NMC)or Nepal Ayurveda Council (NAC)
  • Students must fulfill the complete requirement as specified by Examination Control Division of IOM.

Selection of the admission:

All Nepalese/ Foreign students must appear in the entrance examination conducted by Examination Control Division, IOM.

  • The questions will be objective multiple choice.
  • After exam the separate merit list for Nepalese and Foreign students will be published.
  • Students must secure a minimum of 50% marks in entrance examinations.
  • Admission will be based on merit list and there will be open house counseling wherever it is required.
