Post Basic Bachelor in Nursing (Tribhuvan University)

Post Basic Bachelor in Nursing is a three year program of Nursing Campus, the constituent campus Institute of Medicine (IOM). IOM is affiliated with Tribhuvan University. This program was of 2 years until 2012 and after 2013, the program was converted into 3 years. The nursing course encompasses theory and practical.

In first year students have to study Integrated Basic health Sciences I (Th), Integrated Basic health Sciences II (Th), Integrated Basic health Sciences (Pr), Nursing Concepts and Principles (Th), Adult health Nursing I (Th+ Pr), Child health Nursing I (Th+Pr), Geriatric Nursing (Th+ Pr), Comprehensive English, Computer Application. Likewise, the second year curriculum consists of: Social Science Applied to Nursing (Th), Community Health Nursing I (Th+ Pr), Midwifery I (Th+ Pr), Psychiatric Nursing I (Th + Pr),Teaching and Learning (Th+ Pr), Health Economics & Nursing (Th). In third year, there are 5 elective subjects. The course structure of third year are: Leadership and Management (Th+ Pr) Research Applied to Nursing (Th+ Pr), Major Subjects (Elective) Adult Health Nursing II (Th+ Pr) Child health Nursing II (Th+ Pr) Community Health Nursing II (Th+ Pr) Psychiatric Nursing II (Th+ Pr) Midwifery Nursing II (Th+ Pr).


Objective

The main objectives of Post Basic Bachelor in Nursing are as follows:

  • The course intends to prepare nurses having ability to work as basic and middle level nurse in different professional platform.
  • The course intends to develop nurses having ability to train managers and supervisors in community healthcares and hospitals.
  • The course intends to prepare qualified nursing graduates having ability to conduct general research in the theoretical, practical and clinical aspects of nursing.
  • The course intends to develop nurses having capacity to make an autonomous judgment in nursing related issues; function in leadership positions in different health related issues.


Admission Requirements

Eligibility:

  • The students should pass Proficiency Certificate Level Nursing from University recognized by TU or institutes recognized by TU.
  • The students should pass minimum of 50% marks.
  • The candidates must have at least 2 years of nursing experience after completion of PCL nursing

Admission Criteria:

The candidates should pass entrance test conducted by IOM. The candidates are selected on the merit list based on the marks of entrance exam.

Entrance exam: Total Marks: 100 Science 50 English 15 Health/GK 15 Mathematics 20

Scope and Career Prospects

Nursing profession is full of opportunities and prospects. The nursing is such profession whose importance is increasing every single day. In this volatile and complex world, people are in need of care, love and counsel, which this profession provides. Large numbers of nurses are hired by different hospitals, healthcares, nursing homes, clinics, etc. Not only this, there are different health institutes, international health care organizations, care houses, etc where the graduates can serve people and earn decent remuneration. There are different institutes and colleges where the graduates can teach and continue nursing practices. There are different NGO/ INGO’s working in the field of health care, where nurses work in different positions as per their academic and professional qualification. Efficient nurses have good chance of going abroad and continue their study and nursing practice theirs. There are other different unconventional field where the graduates can make their career. So, the nursing graduates can flourish to the fullest with their hard work, dedication and creativity.
