Bachelor of Fine Arts (Tribhuvan University)
Tribhuvan University provides a bachelor's degree in the field of arts and design, which is termed as Bachelors of Fine Arts (BFA). This course falls under the faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. The total time required by the students to complete this course is 4 years i.e. a total of 8 semesters.
The Branch of Arts offers its students mainly focusing on training in the visual expressions for far reaching education experience.The aim of this course is to develop the student's creative potential and the artistic factor in them [How?]. BFA graduates can apply for the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) under the affiliation of Tribhuvan University.
Lalit Kala Campus is the first and the only college that offers this course of fine arts under Tribhuvan University affiliation. The college is situated at Bhotahiti, Kathmandu.
This main objective of this course is:
- To produce talented graduates with professional artistic skills and creativity.
- To make student gain in-depth knowledge about theater, contemporary visual culture, sensational writing, and art history.
- To empower students to handle a scope of investigative, research and basic techniques in preparing reviews, play writing, execution, outline, and creation.
To apply for this course, student needs to hold an eligibility requirement. In general, the candidate must have passed the higher secondary examinations in any discipline with at least second division. Apart from this, all candidates are required to appear for the entrance examination, conducted by Tribhuvan University at respective colleges.
The short-listed candidates then are called for an interview and then the final decision is made. Admission is totally on the merit basis.

Graduates, holding a BFA degree can pursue a job as fine craftsmen, sight and sound specialists, performing artists, craftsmanship executives, workmanship educators or journalists. Studios and multimedia firms seek for BFA degree holder who can fulfill the expectations of the consumers. Tough competition in the field of video games, special effects and 3D-animation has increased the need of professionally trained artists.
Students considering for this degree more often seek after majors like pottery, experimental writing, visual communication, painting, photography, printmaking, mold, studio craftsmanship, and theater.
