1. BCA at TU:The faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences (FOHSS), TU has been running the BCA since 2074/75 as an eight-semester academic programme spanning four years through 6 constituent campuses offering 35 seats only. Since its inception, the number of colleges offering BCA has sky rocketed.


 

Eligibility:

The academic year for BCA students begins in September and February of each year. So, any students wishing for a BCA from Tu should satisfy the following conditions:

Grade 12 pass before 2079 BS onwards:

  • Minimum D grade in each subject of grade 11 and 12 with CGPA 1.8 or more.or

  • Minimum score of second division marks in 10+2, PCL or equivalent in any discipline.

Grade 12 pass before 2079 BS:

  • Minimum D + grade in each subject of grade 11 and 12 with CGPA 2.0 or more.or

  • Minimum score of second division marks in 10+2, PCL or equivalent in any discipline.

Entrance Examination and its format:

Candidates who wish to enroll for BCA at TU should appear in the Entrance examination administered by the faculties of Humanities and Social Sciences, TU. The format of the entrance examination is given below:

  • Total no. of Questions = 100 (MCQ-based)

  • Total marks: 100

  • Pass marks: 40

  • Duration: 2 hours.

Entrance syllabus:

Attendance requirements: At least 80% attendance in theory and practical classes for the semester end examination.

 

Board examination:

Marks weightage for 3-hours board examination is as listed below:

  • For theory subjects only: 60% external evaluation + 40% internal evaluations.

  • For theory and practical: 60% external evaluation + 20% practical including project works + 20% internal evaluations.

Make up examination:

  • Students with “F-grade” may appear in the re-examination for the failing core course only once.

  • Retaking a course in which a student has earned a D grade is optional. However, a student cannot retake more than two courses in which he/she has received D grade.

 

 

Estimated cost:

  • A minimum of 3.5 lakhs to 4 lakhs in constituent college.

And

  • A minimum of 7 lakhs in affiliated or private colleges.

 

 

2. BCA at Purbanchal University: The University is accreted for initiating the BCA programme for the first time in Nepal in 1999. The Faculty of Science and Technology, PU administers the BCA as 208 credit hours programme of eight-semester programme spanning four academic years.

Eligibility:

Candidates who wish to enroll for BCA from PU should have the following eligibility:

  • +2 or equivalent from any recognized university with a minimum of 45% marks.or

  • A minimum D+ grade in each subject with GPA 2.00 in aggregate.

Entrance Examination and its format:

Candidates who wish for BCA at PU should successfully appear in the entrance examination administered by the Faculty of Science and Technology, PU. Faculty of Science and Technology offers various programs grouped into three categories for entrance examination: Samuha KA, Samuha KHA, and Samuha GA. Students seeking admission to BCA need to attend Samuha KHA. The structure of the examination is as given below:

  • Total no. of questions: 100 (MCQ-based)

  • Full marks: 100

  • Pass marks: 35

  • Duration: 2 hours.

Betterment examination:

The student will be allowed to sit for the betterment exam after completing all semester exams. The CGPA of the student must remain at 2.00 or above throughout the duration of their studies. A student who has not obtained the minimum CGPA by the completion of all semester exams shall be permitted to take the betterment examination to improve their grade to meet the minimum CGPA.

3. BCA at Pokhara University: The BCA at Pokhara University is a four-year, eight semester academics offering a curriculum of 124 credit hours. It combines programming, web design, software development and multimedia in its curriculum.

Eligibility:

  • The candidates should have completed Class-12 examination of NEB or equivalent level from a recognized academic institution.

  • The candidates should have studied a course (having at least 100 full marks or 5 credits) of Mathematics (Mathematics/ Business Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics) or Computer Science/Computer Application in Grade 11 and class 12 for examination of NEB or equivalent level.

  • The candidates should have scored a minimum of 45% or a CGPA/GPA of 2.0 (in a scale of 4.0) and at least Grade C (in case of A-level, at least Grade D) or 45% in Mathematics/Computer Science. The minimum criterion of Grade C (in case of A level, Grade D) or 45% does not apply to other courses.

Students are required to at least maintain a CGPA of 2.0 or better for graduation in BCA from Pokhara University.

Credit hour transfer:

Pokhara University allows BCA candidates to transfer credit hours up to 25% for students who have earned a grade of B or better in the respective courses. However, courses taken more than five years before transfer are not eligible for credit transfer. Students transferring within Pokhara University may receive credit for all compatible courses completed with at least a grade of C.

Repeating a course:

A course may be taken only once for a grade, except when a student receives an 'F' grade. Since

passing all courses individually is an essential requirement to obtain a degree, the student must

retake the failing course when offered by the college and must successfully complete the same. A

student may also be allowed to retake a course to achieve a minimum CGPA of 2.0.

Scholarship:

Pokhara University provides a variety of scholarships to support students pursuing undergraduate and graduate programs in all faculties. In 2024, 490 scholarship seats are designated for programs under the Faculty of Science and Technology.

Types of Scholarships:

  • Full Scholarships: Covering tuition and other applicable fees.

  • Partial Scholarships: Covering a portion of tuition fees.
