The Institute Of Forestry (IOF) or Forestry Campus is Nepal's first instate institute and has dedicated its education and training in Forestry and Natural Resources Management. Under the department of forest, it's first opening as the Nepal Forestry Institute was done at Singh Durbar, Kathmandu in 1947. Later in 1957, it moved to the base of the hill (Bhim Phedi) for concrete potentials established by the Indian Cooperation Mission(ICM).

In 1972 July  The Forestry Campus merged with Tribhuvan University and in 1981 the campus offered a two-year program level certificate course in Hetauda. IOF has methodically managed Bachelor and Master Degree in Forestry to meet the increasing demand for skilled natural resources managers by providing the quality education in the academic sector. In 2004 this campus launched the Master of Science(MSc) and Ph.D. program in forestry and change into a fully fledged institute. A research-based designing program to achieve a doctorate is also introduced for those who are interested in this field.

This institution is providing the special chance to make the change in technical and rigid service to the nation in Forestry and Natural Resource Management as the quality of the campus continues to the graduated and ungraduated students. This campus has increased its service by adding nine different master degree programme with M.Phil & Ph.D. Community Forestry at Pokhara. IOF is currently associate with NORAGRIC of the Agricultural University of Norway (AUN) implementing Master of Science in Management OF Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture (M.Sc. in MNRSA) programme partly at Pokhara.

Objectives

  • To produce self-reliant and practically oriented valuable supply managers who can start their own project in this area and forest-based businesses and also provide the company that helps business services to other interested people and organizations.
  • To use valuable supplies of the IOF and explore other possible useful things and make the campus as a center of superiority in the area of teaching, research and extension.
  • To develop professional relationships with different organizations, government, and other countries related to academic campus and research institutions.

Academic Program

MSc(Forestry)

IOF have started the MSc degree in Forestry to meet the high demand of Forestry Professional all around the world. The course is of four years program and has to write a thesis in the fourth semester. A total of 25+1 seats are available in M.Sc. To get more details on the course, browse further.

Bachelor Degree Program

The students should have ISc, Tcl Forestry, Diploma in Forestry, +2 Science, A-level or equivalent degree with a 50% marks in aggregate can submit their admission form into the bachelor level program. The student should give the college entrance examination and are selected according to their merits score.

Facilities

IOF have a well-maintained auditorium building for different formal and informal academic programs. The campus also has a well-managed and well-furnished conference hall for the small conference and small programs. Hostel facility is available for those to like to stay at the college and study. The library facility is also available which contains more than 30,000 book and governmental documents on natural resources management, basic science and agriculture. The library provides service from 10 am to 5 pm. Forestry Campus library receives around 40 newsletters , journals and related fields. This campus also has museum facility formed to teaching, research, and another project in the related topics.
