Overview

The Bachelor of Business Administration program offered by the School of Management at Kathmandu University is one of the most highly regarded programs of its kind in the whole country. The program is explicitly designed to produce graduates who are competent enough to lead successful careers as managers, entrepreneurs, and business owners who are capable of keeping up with the complex and dynamic business environment of today and tomorrow.

The world of commerce is an intricate web of policies, administrative duties, marketing, production, and so much more. Every one of those aspects are inherently tied together and have a thousand branches within themselves. Skilled business personnel who can understand these complex aspects and leverage that into the betterment of businesses and producing wealth for the society as a whole are the fuel to develop a nation, especially one like Nepal.

In a quest to develop such business people, the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) program at KU focuses on fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and conceptual ability to understand the business world by providing a practically relevant and theoretically sound education in management.
 

Objectives

  • To gain comprehensive knowledge of Management principles and real world business practices from contemporary learning tools and industrial experiences.
  • To combine a range of Management disciplines and focus areas social entrepreneurship, econometrics, financial institutions and industry relations from social science disciplines.
  • To immerse in industry based internship programs, business writing, presentation, research based project work skills for development of Business professional skills.
  • To produce competant Financial Manager, Entrepreneur, Project Manager, Advertiser, Marketing officer, HR Managers, Accountants, Insurance Officers in competitive job markets of business related professional fields nationally and internationally.
     

Admission Requirements

Since there are limited seats in the program, the university reserves the right to select the best candidates for the program. The university has set the following academic cutoff for students to apply:

  • Nepali and non-Nepali nationals with a 10+2 or intermediate degree or the equivalent of at least two years duration in any degree or equivalent of at least two years duration in any discipline with a minimum of 40 percent aggregate or CGPA of 1.6 on the scale of 4.0 from universities/boards recognized by Kathmandu University
  • CGE ‘A’ level passed with a minimum GPA of ‘B’ or above

Once the students meet the academic criteria, they must appear for the university-mandated entrance test called KUUMAT (Kathmandu University Undergraduates Management Admission Test).

Once the students clear the KUUMAT test, they will have to participate in a group discussion and an interview. Admission to the BBA (Emphasis/Honours) program is based on the academic promise of applicants as indicated by their academic records, statement of objectives, recommendations, scores on entrance test, and performance in the personal interview.
 

Fee Structure

The  average fee for a program in Bachelor of Business Administration typically ranges from NPR 400,000 – NPR 600,000, though the exact cost may vary depending on the colleges.

Program Structure

The Bachelor of Business Administration program at Kathmandu University is an intensive 4-year program that is further divided into eight semesters. Within the same time frame, the university offers two different variants of the BBA program, namely:

BBA (Emphasis)
The BBA Emphasis course is akin to the more conventional Bachelor of Business Administration programs that the general populace is aware of. The course offers students the chance to study the foundational, core, and integrative courses associated with business management while allowing them to give a special focus on one of the functional areas of management. This focus will also be acknowledged by the university when the student is awarded their degree. To get a BBA (Emphasis) degree one is required to earn a CGPA of 3.00 or more on a scale of 4 with completion of 50 courses equivalent to 130 credits.

BBA (Honours)
BBA (Honours) offers the students every academic advantage of the BBA (Emphasis) program and more. Besides focusing on one of the functional areas of management, the BBA (Honours) program focuses on building the research capability of students.

To get the degree one needs to earn a CGPA of 3.5 or more on a scale of 4 with completion of 54 courses equivalent to 142 credits. Students who have passed all courses up to year II, semester II, secured at least a 3.25 CGPA at the end of regular end-semester examinations, and have secured grades of C+ and above in all the courses are eligible for the BBA Honours.

Specializations

The Bachelor of Business Administration program at Kathmandu University has quite a few opportunities for students to specialize in their craft. Regardless of whether the students choose the BBA (Emphasis) or BBA (Honours), students get to choose an area of management that they can focus on. The

specializations available under the KUSOM’s BBA program are:

  • Finance Specialization
  • Marketing Specialization
  • Human Resource Management Specialization

Under each specialization, the students are given a pool of subjects out of which they can choose 6 subjects that they want to study. The specialization contributes 18 credit hours to the overall course.

Apart from the specialization courses, the students also have the opportunity to choose 2 elective subjects out of a pool of 8 possible courses to further specialize their understanding of the management disciplines of their choosing.

The students who complete the BBA with Honours will also get a chance to study four additional courses that will enhance their abilities as researchers.
