Master of Engineering in Electrical Power Engineering | KU

The Master of Engineering in Electrical Power Engineering program is designed to enhance the professional skills of electrical engineers. This two-year program is conducted by Kathmandu University and is divided into four semesters. The course was initiated in 2004 in collaboration with the Norwegian University of Science and Technology. Students from various countries, including Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Tanzania, and Zambia, enroll in this level education each year. The curriculum includes study at both Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Kathmandu University.

During the first semester, students study at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology to earn thirty credits in ECTS, which are later transferred to fifteen credits at Kathmandu University. The remaining education is completed at Kathmandu University. Students in this level studies receive scholarships that cover their living expenses in both Norway and Nepal. The curriculum covers subjects such as Power System Reliability, Social Impacts of Engineering Systems, Renewable Energy Systems, Distribution Systems Design, Power System Dynamics and Control, Financing and Economics of Power Systems, Advanced Probability and Statistics, Power Engineering Updates, Power Electronics, and Power System Analysis. Students are required to submit a thesis before graduation.

Kathmandu University's School of Engineering is the only academic institution in Nepal offering the Master of Engineering in Electrical Power Engineering degree under the affiliation of Kathmandu University.

Objectives of Master of Engineering in Electrical Power Engineering

Admission Requirements in Master of Engineering in Electrical Power Engineering

Students interested in pursuing the Master of Engineering in Electrical Power Engineering studies should fulfill the following criteria:

  • Have at least two years of experience in a relevant profession.
  • Be able to take leave from their job to pursue the degree.
  • Students from non-English speaking countries should submit a valid TOEFL certificate.
  • Be between the ages of 25 and 35.
  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or its equivalent.
  • Have scored at least fifty percent or a CGPA of 2.5 in their Bachelor's degree.
  • Have knowledge in materials science, electromagnetics, electronics, electrical machines, power systems, mathematics, and system/control theory.
