Overview

The Bachelor of Computer System and Information Technology (BCSIT) is a four-year academic programme consisting of eight semesters totaling 127 credit hours, offered by the Faculty of Management at Pokhara University (PU). It is an intensive program that strongly and adequately emphasises both conceptual foundations and practical applications, in the areas of information technology and management, so that graduates can develop intellectual abilities and technical skills through the integration of computer, IT, and management courses for managerial applications.

Objective

Among others, the primary objectives of BSCIT at PU are:
    • To assist students in understanding computer systems and information technology, and to utilise them for making managerial decisions by analysing available data.
    • To enable students to identify, analyse, and implement appropriate solutions for complex technical issues.
    • To enhance students' communication skills, allowing them to convey information effectively to a diverse audience and foster collaboration.
    • To encourage candidates to think critically and analytically, and to implement the most viable solutions.

Cirriculum Structure

The curriculum has the following five fundamental components with their objectives listed below:
    • Foundational Course: With a strong foundation in Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, and Business and Technology, it aims to enhance the communication skills of graduates.
    • Core course on Management: The program seeks to develop students’ understanding of the functional areas within the Managerial Course.
    • Core Course on CIS: Focused on the managerial field, this course aims to improve candidates’ grasp of the functional areas of computer science and information technology.
    • Elective Course: It helps develop specialised and focused skills in the field chosen by students.
    • Project work and Internship: An Independent capstone project requires students to visit the field and collect data for presentation. The Internship allows students to gain invaluable real-life work experience.

Admission Requirements

Any candidate who seeks admission to BSCIT must at least secure a minimum of a second division or its equivalent in intermediate/+2/certificate level in any stream (Management, Science, Humanities, Education) from institutions recognized by Pokhara University.
Eligible candidates are required to collect, fill out, and submit the admission form along with copies of other relevant documents as asked by the college offering the programme. Candidates are then required to appear in the entrance examination. Those who succeed in the Entrance examination then need to appear for an in-person interview before the final merit list is published.
