Tribhuvan University, Central Department of Biotechnology

The Central Department of Biotechnology was established by Tribhuvan University in 2008 AD. It is located in Kirtipur, Kathmandu. The Central Department began the M.Sc. program in 2009, the Ph.D. program in 2011, and the postdoctoral program in 2017. The enlargement of the research laboratory began in 2017 in anticipation of creative research in several disciplines of biotechnology. During the devastating COVID crisis, CDBT-TU and its graduates helped the nation when the country was looking for competent personnel for the diagnosis of COVID-19 and the circulating SARS-CoV-2 variant test using Next Generation Sequencer. As a result, the Department is preparing human resources for biotechnology-based laboratories and enterprises that will not only create highly skilled jobs but will also benefit the national economy and development.
