Bachelor of Education (BEd) | TU
Overview
The Bachelor of Education by Tribhuvan University is one of the more versatile programs offered by the university, with plenty of scope for specializations and the opportunity to choose a major and a minor domain of study. Previously, this was one of the 3-year courses offered by the university. However, since the course was updated, it became a 4-year program with the major and minor options.
The BEd program at TU is a competent academic as well as professional offering. The graduates of this program are primed to become secondary-level teachers, but the possibilities don’t end there, as will be discussed later in the article. As the course is being offered by almost 500 colleges across the country, it is also quite an accessible course for most high school graduates

Program Structure
As mentioned before, the BEd program at TU is a 4-year course. Much like the other 3-year courses that were recently updated to become full 4-year courses, this program is not divided into semesters. The board exams are held at the end of each academic year, and students need to pass their respective major and minor subjects to be awarded a degree.
Apart from the major and minor subjects, all students need to partake in courses that prepare them to become educators of the future. The compulsory subjects can be broadly divided into three domains: communication skills courses, professional core courses, and teaching internships. The overall structure of the course looks something like this:

Eligibility
Specializations
Since the BEd program at TU is tailored to create educators, the diversity of specializations is a reflection of the variety of subjects that the students from across the country have to study at the secondary level. The specialization is available on two levels: specialization in major & specialization in minor. On top of that, the ability of the student to choose a major subject is also in part limited by the subjects that they studied in the past.
A graduate of the BEd program would have studied 10 courses within their major area of specialization. The options are as follows:
- Nepali Language Education
- English Language Education
- Math Education
- Science Education
- Health and Physical Education
- Population Education
- Geography Education
- Economics Education
- History Education
- Political Science Education
Independent of the major area of study, students of the BEd program at TU have to study 5 courses under their minor area of specialization. It is to be noted that the major and minor areas of study cannot overlap. Meaning, a student with a math education major is not allowed to take up a math education minor. With that being said, here are the available minor specializations:
- Nepali Language Education
- English Language Education
- Math Education
- Science Education
- Health Education
- Physical Education
- Population Education
- Geography Education
- Economics Education
- History Education
