Bachelor of Film Studies (Screenplay Writing And Direction) | TU

Bachelor in Film Studies (BFS) is an undergraduate degree program offered by the affiliated campuses of Tribhuvan University (TU), under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. In South Asia, Nepal is the only country that provides a Bachelor's degree in Film Making (BFS).

BFS is a professionally and strategically designed bachelor's degree program that spans three years, focusing on subjects such as History of Films, Basic Film Theory, English, Nepali, History, Culture, Literature, Sociology & Anthropology, and Psychology as core subjects. Specialization subjects include Direction, Acting, Motion Picture Photography, Audiography, and Film Editing. Students must choose one subject amongs them as their specialization for the completion of their bachelor's degree.

Objectives of Bachelor of Film Studies (Screenplay Writing And Direction)

Tribhuvan University offers a BFS degree in Nepal with the following objectives:

  1. To prepare successful BFS graduates who can work as professional filmmakers or in digital media.
  2. To prepare passionate, creative, and enthusiastic human resources in the field of the film industry and movie making.
  3. To prepare students for higher-level studies, such as a Master's program in Film Making, Photography, or other related fields.
  4. To provide international-level theoretical and practical classes to students, enabling them to develop a deeper understanding and broaden their knowledge about the movie industry, film making, and digital media.
  5. To provide knowledge in literature, sociology, psychology, and other social sciences, enhancing the understanding and enjoyment of film as a major art form.
  6. To help develop technical skills and cultivate students' interest while making them understand the artistic vision of film making by introducing them to a wide range of films.
  7. To prepare graduates who can improve, promote, and develop the film industry and digital media in our country.

Admission Requirements in Bachelor of Film Studies (Screenplay Writing And Direction)

Eligibility for Admission:

The eligibility for admission of the students in Bachelor of Film Studies are asfollows:

  • They must have completed their 10+2 (Higher Secondary Education Board) or an equivalent level certificate in Science, Management, Humanities, or any other discipline from any national or foreign board/university recognized by TU with a second division or a minimum of 45% aggregate or at least grade D in three subjects in A-Level.
  • They will have to pass an entrance examination conducted by the TU-affiliated campuses. There will be an oral test and a written examination. The applicants must face an interview.
  • They will be selected from the merit list prepared based on the score obtained in the 10+2 (HSEB) level or equivalent level, the written examination, and the interview.
  • Non-Nepali can also apply.

Application forms can be collected from Oscar International College. If you meet the above-mentioned eligibility criteria, along with the filled Application form, the following documents are needed:

  • Copy of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) or equivalent grade sheet
  • Copy of the Character Certificate
  • Copy of the 10+2 (HSEB) or equivalent level transcript
  • Copy of the Migration Certificate (Original during the admission)
  • Copy of the Citizenship Certificate or valid Passport (For Non-Nepali)
