In the age of specializations, a program in pure science like Bachelor of Science in Chemistry might be considered orthodox and at times unappealing for many. The 4-year BSc. Chemistry program at Tribhuvan is paradoxically generic because it aims to build graduates that specialize in chemistry.
Program structure
The BSc. Chemistry program being offered at TU and its affiliate colleges is a four year program. This is a pure science program, meaning the students are only expected to explore aspects of science and not much else besides. The course begins with basic foundational aspects of chemistry and eventually builds up to more advanced concepts. The course then culminates in a final year project. Some subjects are worth 100 marks while others make up for only 50. The overall course structure in terms of studying chemistry looks something like this.
Apart from Chemistry, the students are also expected to study 2 more disciplines in the first two years of the program. They can choose the subjects from the list below:

In the third year of the program, they drop one of the three core subjects (except Chemistry), and in the final year they drop another subject to now only study Chemistry. There are a few other courses that the student might have to take, as mandated by the university curriculum.
Objectives of BSc Chemistry
The objectives of studying Bachelor of Science Chemistry program of Tribhuvan University are as follows:

Specializations
As previously established, BSc. Chemistry at TU is a generic course designed to impart the knowledge of pure science, in this case chemistry, to students. Hence, there is no room for a particular specialization within this program. Still, the students can choose a specialized area of their interest for the third year electives and their final year project work. While they don’t exactly amount to a specialization, they do offer students an opportunity to home in on what they would like to study within the bounds of the course.
Admission Requirements
Although the BSc. Chemistry is quite an intensive program, the criteria for admission is somewhat lax. The student will have to pass through two stages of selection to enroll into a BSc. Chemistry. Let’s look into that some more.
Eligibility
Students who wish to enroll in TU’s BSc. Chemistry must have completed their 10+2 from Physical or Biological group in Science with extra Mathematics or equivalent, with a minimum of 50% in aggregate or at least grade C in three subjects in the Advance Level from any Board/University recognized by TU.
Entrance Exam
Once the eligibility requirements are met, students can go forth and sign up for the entrance exam for the BSc. Chemistry program at TU. The application for said entrance can be collected from an affiliated college or via the university’s official website. Students would also receive instruction about filling up the form and the necessary attachments when they get their form.
The filled out form and the necessary attachments should be submitted along with the required cash amount or an equivalent bank deposit slip payable to the associated college. Of course, all this is to be done before the due date. Once that’s done, the students will receive an admit card for the test.
The test will have 40 questions from Chemistry, 40 questions from maths, and 20 questions to validate your English aptitude. To pass this test, the student would have to obtain at least 30%.
However, simply passing the test is not enough. The test is part of a merit system and colleges will consider the student’s academic history besides the test scores to offer enrollment. Depending on the number of seats available, the students with the highest merit will be given priority.
