Bachelor of Arts (BA) | TU

Overview

Bachelor of Arts at Tribhuvan University is one of the most popular programs in Nepal and one of the most versatile at that. There are few programs available in the country that offer a comparable degree of specialization to the TU BA program. However, because the range of specialization is so broad, there are few college campuses in the country that cater to students with the full breadth of this program.
On that note, the Bachelor of Arts is a four-year program offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS) at Tribhuvan University. It consists of 30 constituent campuses and over 300 affiliated colleges to facilitate teaching thousands upon thousands of students.

Objectives of Bachelor of Arts

  • To develop various skills and aptitudes for logical reasoning, provide unbiased facts, develop moral and social responsibilities, enhance communication, and develop progressive learning abilities from the study of a bachelor's degree program in arts.
  • To learn and embrace the diversities, awareness of historical and philosophical enhancement of visual and written forms of expression, and competencies for community development as an arts faculty student.
  • To establish a benchmark of quality and goodwill from the excellence of creative industries.
  • To enhance educational, training, and personal development opportunities for social contributions.
  • Be able to deploy qualified, professional human resources with Bachelor of Arts degrees from Nepalese universities to make a change and also aid in developmental areas of our nation and represent us in the world.
  • To be able to be eligible to work in the arena of people's welfare and support their noble causes from national-level and international scales of human socio-economic developments.

Program Structure

The BA program at TU follows the conventional 4-year format. However, veering away from convention is the structure of the course, as it is stratified in terms of marks instead of credit hours. Albeit the credit hour format can also be applied, the program is usually considered a 2000-mark course. Each year accounts for 500 marks. The marking scheme can be broken down as follows:

The majors and electives taken up by the student would define their specialization over the course of the 4-year program, whereas the remainder remains compulsory for all associated programs.

Career and Scope

Because of the sheer breadth of the scopes that the BA programs offer, it is hard to define a singular career path for BA graduates. While it is a popular career path for BA graduates to go on to become scholars in their domain, they essentially have the liberty to carve out a niche in their domain of study.

So what career paths would a TU BA graduate be best suited for?

Statistically, BA graduates tend to find jobs as educators and researchers in various institutions like colleges, universities, libraries, research centers, etc. Other than that, these graduates are very well suited to work in activism and become a part of NGOs, INGOs, cultural organizations, and the like. They can also find a career in the commercial and government sectors depending on their specialization and aptitude.

Apart from that, the most amazing thing about these programs is that they seem to produce a lot of leaders—leaders of thought, leaders of philosophy, or leaders of politics. It is usually the case that political, religious, and social leaders are alumni of BA programs. Now, whether this is because BA inculcates the art of leadership and clarity of ideation in individuals or individuals that are predisposed to such attributes gravitate towards BA programs is arguable.

Frequently Asked Questions

In comparison to most bachelor-level programs, the BA program by Tribhuvan University is actually cheaper. That being said, not all BA programs are the same. Studying generic programs like Major English or Major Nepali might be much cheaper than the more focused disciplines like Social Work. Again, the kind of campus you end up attending also makes a huge impact on the fees. If you take up tuition at government colleges like Ratna Rajya Laxmi Campus, you can get by with minimal fees.

The best choice of program for BA at TU is really dependent on the aptitude and interests of the student. While a BA in Music could be a fantastic program for one, the same program might feel like hell to someone who has no inclination towards creating and understanding music.
