Overview
The Bachelor of Arts in Economics degree offered by the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FoHSS) at Tribhuvan University is an extension of the Bachelor of Arts program offered by the same institution. This program is one that is dedicated to the study of economics as a discipline and allows students to inculcate an understanding of economics in both the macro and micro scales.
The 4-year program is one of the more popular variants of TU’s BA offerings as a significant portion of the students choosing to study BA opt for a specialization in Economics.
Program Structure
The BA Economics at TU is still structured in the conventional 4-year format where the students have to study 5 subjects every year. Each year the students appear for a board exam where they have to solve papers graded at a total of 500 marks, making this program a 2000-mark program. The marking scheme can be broken down as follows:
Objectives of BA Economics
The objectives of studying BA Economics program are:
- To be able to understand and apply micro and macro economics tools and concepts
- To be able to apply the mathematical and statistical functions in derivatives of economic trends and structures
- To be able to apply the instruments and techniques of economic principles in development, planning and national economic outputs of Nepal
- To gain knowledge of broad terms like public finance, nepalese industry and trade, national infrastructures from the synthesis of economic principles, matrices and issues to solve national problems of this frontier.
- To advance with applied areas of study in academic research, report writing, market based data collecting and processing skills and techniques.
- To develop careers from academic qualifications in areas of monetary involvement, reforms and developments of economic growth and sustainence.

Admission Requirements in BA Economics
The admission criteria for the BA Economics program at TU are very low when compared with other programs offered by the university. The candidate need not appear for any interview or entrance exam. They only need to fulfill the following academic criteria:
- The candidate must have successfully completed the +2 or an equivalent degree from Tribhuvan University (TU) or a board/institution/university recognized by TU, regardless of the chosen stream.
