About the University

Established in 1985, Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has been striving to improve the Gross Enrollment Ratio (GER) by providing excellent education through the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) approach. IGNOU offers internationally recognized degrees that are highly regarded worldwide. The University initially began its educational journey in 1987 by offering Diploma in Management and Diploma in Distance Education courses to over 4,000 students.

Located in Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, IGNOU serves more than 4 million students across India. It also caters to international students through its network of 67 Regional Centers, 21 Schools of Studies, 20 overseas institutions, and over 3,000 Learner Support Centers. The University provides a wide range of certificate, diploma, undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs. The management team of IGNOU consists of over 300 faculty members, 230 academic staff at the headquarters and regional centers, and more than 35,000 academic counselors from conventional institutions of higher learning and professional organizations.

Scholarships:

IGNOU provides scholarships to students belonging to reserved categories. The University also provides fee exemption or reimbursement facilities to eligible students. Additionally, students can apply for scholarships offered by the Government of India. To apply, students need to collect application forms from the office of the Social Welfare Officer or the Directorate of Social Welfare, fill them with accurate details, and submit them to the Regional Director at the Regional Centre office. Postgraduate students at IGNOU are also eligible for the Scholarship scheme offered by the National Centre for Promotion of Employment of Disabled People (NCPEDP), and they can apply directly through the awarding authority.

Candidates from OBC/ST/SC/PWD/Minority categories may also be eligible for fee exemption, fee reimbursement, fee waiver, or scholarships provided by the MHRD/UGC and various state governments. Furthermore, IGNOU offers fee reduction for students in the Diploma in Agriculture and Certificate programs. The reduction is based on the income or domicile certificate, with 50% fee reduction for students below the poverty line in town areas and students from village areas.

IGNOU Placements:

IGNOU has a Campus Placement Cell (CPC) that bridges the gap between students and recruiters by organizing skill enhancement events, campus placement events, and job fairs at study centers, regional centers, and the headquarters.

Several companies, including Quikr.Com, Aegis Services Pvt. Ltd., Radical Minds Technologies, AEGON Life Insurance, Aviva India, and Reliance Life Insurance, have recruited IGNOU graduates. From 2017 to 2019, the University witnessed a remarkable 9000% growth in the number of students shortlisted for placements.
