Overview

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India was set up by the Parliament Act namely the Chartered Accountants Act in 1949. This body functions under the control of the Ministry of Corporate Affair,s Government of India. It consists of 40 members from which 32 are elected by Chartered Accountants and 8 by Central Government representing Comptroller and Auditor General India. It maintains the highest standards of technical, ethical areas for stringent examination and education standards. It also oversees continuing professional education of members, formulating accounting standards, prescribing standard audit procedures, monitoring quality through peer review. It also allows financial reporting review and gives input on policy matters to the Government.

Institute in Nepal

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India allows under the new scheme of education and training to become members holding certification of practice and get membership from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nepal, ICAN. ICAN conducts exams in June and December each year in Nepal and is required to pass in the subjects of commercial law, direct tax, and indirect tax.
