BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences

BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, is one of the renowned medical colleges in Nepal offering medical education. Located in Eastern part of Nepal, Dharan, it was established in 1993 AD and was later upgraded as Health Sciences University on Oct 28, 1998 AD.

This University was named after Bisheshwar Prasad(BP) Koirala, who was a visionary leader of Nepal. The college offers undergraduate, postgraduate, university certificate programs and also Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) program.

The medical college consists of well-founded clinical and science departments. The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program commenced in 1993. The postgraduate programs (MD, MS and MSc) began in 1999. The School of Public Health was established in 2005 and started MPH program in two year. M Sc Nursing Program began in 2008 and BDS program in 1999, recognized by Nepal Medical Council.

Altogether, there are four teaching faculties being offered by BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences. They are:- 

• College of Dental Surgery
• School of Public Health and Community Medicine 

Facilities

The students are obliged to stay in college hostel so, there is no transportation facility. The University provides separate hotels for boys and girls. The college offers its own water supply and backup power system. There is a resourceful library filled with medical books and references. The library is open for 15 hours everyday from Sunday to Thursday. On Friday, it is open from 8 am to 1 pm and on Saturday, it is open from 8 am to 6 pm. There is an Emergency Department at BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, which provides emergency hospital services to the people. Various Scholarship opportunities are also available for the students.

Admission Procedure

The applicant must submit online application only. There is no provision of manual application submission. Eligibility criteria are given below:

• The candidate must have passed I.Sc. or 10+2 (science stream) or equivalent examination. The candidate must be at least 17 years of age by the last date of application.
• Candidates are required to appear on the entrance examination conducted by the University which will be 3 and half hours long.

One seat for admission is reserved for the children of BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences, Nepali permanent faculty/staff who have served the Institute continuously full-time for 3 years. The selection of candidates in this seat will also be completely on the basis of merit of the Entrance examination. After the selection of the child, the staff is required to continue his/her tenure for at least further 4 years if the Institute demands for it. Over violation of the rule, the parent of the student (faculty/staff) should pay tuition fee as per the Institute rule.
