The Bachelor of Law program is an undergraduate degree under the Faculty of Law from the University of Nepal. It is a prestigious qualification with a theoretical understanding of legal knowledge and real-life applications that are transformational to the welfare of Nepalese society.

General Information about LLB Course

In Nepal, a Bachelor of Laws was introduced to produce low-level clerical manpower. The first legislative college, Nepal Law Campus was established in 1954 in Kathmandu in affiliation to Patna University.

During that period, many students studied Bachelor of Laws course, for the most part, on Indian jurisprudence. Later, Tribhuvan University received the transfer of the program in 1960 and reorganized under the National Education System Plan (NEASP).

The program made a great breakthrough in the authorized education system in the nation by incorporating Nepalese laws into the course of study. In this way, all subjects are updated, improved, added, and tuned with the needs of today by allocating new code numbers.

The course of study consists of 16 compulsory subjects and 24 optional. Moreover, it instructs lectures (exposition), case studies, group discussions, moot court, demonstration, role-playing, workshop practice, observation, research activity, problem-solving, etc.

Objective of LLB

The course objective of a Bachelor of Laws is essential to know if students are pursuing this degree. So, let’s take a glimpse at the points written below:-

Eligibility for LLB

Some main eligibility criteria for studying the Bachelor of Laws course in Nepal are:-

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree (10+2+3) in any discipline or an equivalent program recognized by Tribhuvan or Purbanchal University.
  • Selection criteria will be determined based on the marks and percentage obtained in the previous Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and or of the entrance test administrated by the Tribhuvan or Purbanchal University.

Evaluation

Each student will have to pass each paper of the annual examination. Each annual (final) examination will be conducted under the Tribhuvan, or Purbanchal University's direction and guidance.

The candidates will have to pass both theoretical and practical exams and the grading will be as follows:

  • 35% to below 45% - Pass
  • 45% below 60% - Second Division
  • 60% below 75% - First Division
  • 75% and above - Distinction

Graduation Requirements

To earn a Bachelor’s degree in Law students must pass each annual (final) exam, securing a minimum of 35% marks in each paper. All other requirements must be fulfilled.

Scope of LLB
