BE Civil Course, Bachelor of Civil Engineering

People have evolved from living in a cave to living in highly fascinating buildings. The mode of transportation has evolved from roadways to airways. The sun has become the modern source of renewable energy. People want to settle at a location that has all the facilities such as sanitation, drinking water, and urbanization.

With the advancement of human civilization, the demand for sustainable infrastructures, drinking water, sanitation, urban planning, and renewable sources of energy is increasing day by day. Bachelor of Civil Engineering or BE Civil is a course designed to produce such individuals who will be capable of synchronizing human ideas with nature.

Bachelor of Civil Engineering is a 4-year undergraduate program that develops a student with an ability to understand various problems associated with civil engineering and develop efficient methods to overcome those defects. The students gain an in-depth understanding of various scientific principles associated with various fields of civil engineering. This course enhances the managerial ability of students, which helps them to establish their own business and grow it.

The BE civil is a practical-oriented education. Survey camping is conducted to improve the in-depth understanding of survey engineering. Students are encouraged to conduct field research individually. Various educational tours are conducted regularly for students to make them familiarize with the use of the theories of civil engineering in real-life structures.

Let us look at some key points that the BE Civil course offers;

  • Study of different disciplines of civil engineering.
  • Emphasis on problem-solving abilities and project management through practical and fieldwork.
  • Skills and knowledge to design and construct the infrastructure.

BE Civil Course in Nepal

The first male civil engineer in Nepal was Er. Kul Ratna Tuladhar and Er. Shanti Malla was the first female civil engineer in Nepal. However, the course of BE in Civil in Nepal was established decades after their graduation. The bachelor program in civil engineering was first established by the Pulchowk campus under Tribhuvan University in 1984 AD regularly. As of there, there are more than 6 universities that provide the course of bachelor in civil engineering in Nepal. Many new colleges having civil engineering programs are being established by affiliating with certain universities to meet the requirement of skilled manpower in the country.

Nepal is a developing country. The construction of infrastructure has rapidly increased within this decade. It is essential to establish sustainable infrastructure which is not only economical but also can run for a long period. So, the demand for civil engineers in Nepal is increasing day by day.

Nepal has been facing geological hazards on a regular basis. Civil engineers can play a vital role in the construction of the infrastructure which can withstand the substantial effects of geo-hazard areas using the knowledge acquired while completing a bachelor's in civil engineering.

BE in civil provides a platform for students to learn various design and analysis software such as ETABS, SAP 2000, and OpenSees. Using the skills of these tools a civil engineer can design and analyze the structure in such a way that it can withstand various man-made and natural hazards.

Students who graduate with a BE in civil can use the knowledge of hydrology engineering, water resource engineering, and civil engineering to mitigate the effect of floods in various parts of Nepal. Similarly, after graduating Bachelor's in civil engineering, students can also work as energy engineer.
