BSc CSIT Course in Nepal
Tribhuvan University established a BSc CSIT course for the first time in Nepal and this course was adopted as a 4-year course with a total of 126 credit hours. These 4 years are subdivided into 8 semesters. This course ensures the development of students in various sectors of programming and computation.
A total of 3036 seats are available in TU for those who want to study BSc CSIT. As of now, there are 60 TU-affiliated colleges all over Nepal teaching this course.
Credit Hours, Transfers, and Withdrawal
The total credit hours for this course have been set for 126 hours in which one credit hour represents 16 classroom lectures. So the total number of lectures to complete a BSc. CSIT is 2016.
The university allows students to transfer their credits to a similar course of other universities as recognized by TU.
Students willing to transfer the credit shall apply for the transfer in the concerned department. They will be informed about the sum amount required for transfer to the department.
If students have completed the course partially, they are allowed to withdraw from it. In such cases, the university will provide them with a certificate stating the total credits earned throughout their stay.
Graduation Requirement
The university will provide the BSc CSIT degree to those students who complete all of the following requirements:
- They should complete the credit hours as prescribed.
- They should have a minimum passing grade in each course.
- They must pass all the examinations with a minimum passing grade within 8 years.

The major eligibility criteria for a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Computer Science and Information Technology (CSIT) are listed below:
- Students must complete 12 years of schooling in the science stream or equivalent from institutions recognized by the Nepal education board.
- Students must pass the entrance examination conducted by the Institute of Science and Technology (IOST), TU with a threshold score of 35%.
- Students must have covered the Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry course with at least grade ‘C’ individually in each subject. OR
- Students from A level must score at least a grade of ‘D’ in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. OR
- Students with 3 Years Diploma in an Engineering program from CTEVT should get at least a second division and this program must comprise the Physics & Mathematics course.

Any individual who is willing and is also eligible to study the BSc CSIT course offered by the Institute of Science and Technology (IoST), Tribhuvan University should collect the entrance examination form from the desired TU-affiliated colleges.
After filling out the form with the correct information, they should submit it to the college. The notice regarding the entrance exam is published by IoST, TU on their official website.
Note: Entrance forms filled from any one of the colleges will be valid to study for other colleges as well.
Below are a few things that applicants need to know about the entrance examination:
- The type of questions asked in the entrance exam is objective.
- The full mark for the examination is 100.
- The pass mark is 35. It means applicants must secure at least 35 marks to be eligible to study the course.
- The exam duration is 2 hours.
- IoST issues the time and date for the entrance exam.
- The IoST also determines the center for the exam.
After applicants pass their entrance examination they have to provide the required document to the desired college for the admission procedure. The documents that are required are:
- Photocopy of S.E.E / S.L.C. certificate
- Photocopy of Transcript of 10+2 or any equivalent course
- Original copy of the migrational certificate.
- Photocopy of 10+2 or any equivalent course mark sheet.
Fee Structure
The tuition fee to study BSc CSIT can vary from college to college. The fee depends upon various factors and services provided by the college.
In general, the public colleges charge relatively lower tuition fees than private colleges. Students have to pay between Rs. 3 lakhs-4 lakhs to study in the government colleges.
Private colleges can charge you the sum of Rs. 6 lakhs to study BSc CSIT. The fee structure for the course in private colleges can go higher depending upon the college.
