BSc MIT Course, Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology

Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Medical Imaging Technology

Medical imaging technologies studies are the study of techniques and processes of imaging interior parts of a body for clinical analysis and medical interventions. This program is also known by the name of radiology. Students will learn about subjects like X-rays, ultrasonography, mammography, and CT scans which use medical imaging for the analysis of internal parts of the patient's body for examinations. Here medical imaging technologies come in handy. It is used to diagnose diseases. Doctors plan the treatment procedures and track the progress through these images.

Overview

Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology (B.Sc. MIT) is the course that is responsible for producing the technologists who can operate and manage the machines and perform the required procedures. It is an extremely important education as without these technicians it is impossible to cure diseases.

BSc MIT Course in Nepal

Currently, Nepal has advanced medical imaging technologies in most of the hospitals. There are private institutions to provide the related services. The country reached the conditions in this sector through slow advancements.

However, the history of medical imaging technologies dates back to 1923 when radiological services including the first X-ray began operating. Since then the need for the equipment and technicians to use them have been in demand.

Various pieces of training were provided before the BSc MIT course was introduced to produce capable technicians. The introduction of this undergraduate program helped to address the demand for medical imaging technologists in the health care system of Nepal.

Currently, 4 universities/institutions provide BSc MIT courses, which are:

  • Tribhuvan University (TU)
  • Kathmandu University (KU)
  • B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS)
  • National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS)

General Information

Bachelor of Science in Medical Imaging Technology, BSc MIT course in short form is a 4-year undergraduate degree program. This program teaches students how to operate various medical imaging machines while also emphasizing the structure and function of the human body.

There are a total of 8 colleges/institutions that provide the BSc MIT course in Nepal. The total number of seats available for the students in them is 71. The number of seats available for the BSc MIT course is less when compared to other undergraduate degrees in the medical field. Course Structure

The BSc MIT course trains students to operate and utilize medical imaging equipment successfully. Students receive a thorough understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the principles regarding medical imaging technologies.

They pick up skills in taking clear pictures and helping with precise medical diagnoses. The program also emphasizes the development of abilities to guarantee the secure and effective operation of medical imaging centers.

At the end of the BSc MIT course students will learn to use different imaging machines like X-rays, CT Scans, MRI machines, and a few others. They will also be able to perform Nuclear Medicine Imaging.

The BSc MIT syllabus also covers radiographic techniques, radiation physics, and protection techniques. The students learn about their role as technicians and also the ethics required during their professional career.

After graduating students learn not only to use the medical imaging machines but also get the experience through internships and lab work. They get the exposure to the hospitals and private centers.

Objective of BSc MIT

The BSc MIT objectives for studying are:-

  • Understanding the basic anatomy and pathophysiology of disease processes.
  • To impart knowledge of both contemporary imaging techniques and traditional radiography techniques.
  • To teach trainees how to operate and maintain various medical imaging equipment.
  • To produce technically skilled and self-reliant Medical imaging technology technicians both locally and globally.
  • Are able to use radiography for the diagnosis and treatment of injuries and diseases.
