BVSc&AH Course in Nepal 

Nepal has a long history in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry. It was the primary source of earning and livelihood back in the days. Even now, people are involved in cattle farming. It is their source of food and work requirement. 

Livestock farming has increased in the past decades for economical purposes. Large numbers of animals are kept in the pastures. These animals had to be taken care of and should be provided a balanced diet. 

Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (BVSc&AH) Course is an extremely important undergraduate degree required in this field. The manpower that understands animal health, knows how to treat them and can take care of their diet is needed for this sector. BVSc&AH is a program that is responsible for producing such manpower

The BVSc & AH course was established at IAAS in the academic year 1993-94 (2050-051 B.S.) with the goal of training qualified and competent manpower in cattle health, production, and management.

Currently, there are 3 universities that provide BVSc&AH courses in Nepal. 

  • Agriculture and Forestry University (AFU)
  • Tribhuvan University (TU)
  • Purbanchal University (PU)

General Information

Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry (BVSc&AH) Course is an undergraduate degree with a duration of 5 years. 

There are a total of 9 semesters in the degree where students have to complete the credit hours and attend the end-semester exam for 4.5 years. It is then followed by the 6 months of compulsory internship where students gained hands-on experience. 

There are a total of 4 colleges as of 2023 affiliated to three different universities that provide the course. The total seats available are 180. The average credit hour is ~200.

Course Structure

Eligibility Criteria of Bachelor of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry

Students who are interested in the BVSc&AH course must meet the following criteria to be eligible to study it.

  • They need to have studied Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in intermediate or equivalent level in the science stream.
  • Should have an aggregate of at least 50% or C+ or 2.4 CGPA in the +2 or equivalent. 
  • Should have passed the entrance examination administered by universities.

Admission Requirement

As part of the admissions process, the university that offers the BVSc&AH course administers the entrance exam test each year. In order to enroll in the program, applicants must take the exam and pass it.

Some key details about the entrance examination

  • The type of questions asked is objective. 
  • Students must secure at least 50% of the total points to pass the exam.
  • The test score will be considered while creating the merit list for the scholarship.

If you are accepted into a BVSc&AH course, you may need to provide the following documentation as part of the admissions process.

  • Marksheet, character, and proof certificate of SEE/ SLC
  • Transcript, mark sheet and migration, and character certificate of 10+2 or any equivalent course
  • Copy of citizenship

Fee Structure

The fee structure of BVSc & AH varies depending upon the college providing it. If the course is taught in the private institution, it might be a little bit expensive as compared to the government-funded colleges.
