The Institute of Forestry (IOF) is Nepal's first in-state institute and has dedicated its education and training to forestry and natural resources management. Under the department of forest, it's first opening as the Nepal Forestry. The institute was done at Singha Durbar, Kathmandu, in 1947. Later in 1957, it moved to the base of the hill (Bhim Phedi) for concrete potentials established by the Indian Cooperation Mission (ICM). In 1972, the July Institute of Forestry merged with Tribhuvan University, and in 1981, the Institute of Forestry (IOF) offered a two-year program-level certificate course in Forestry since 1981 in Hetauda. This campus was later named the “Institute of Forestry." The Institute of Forestry has methodically managed bachelor and master degrees in forestry to meet the increasing demand for skilled natural resources managers by providing quality education in the academic sector. In 2004, the Institute of Forestry launched the Master of Science (MSc) and Ph.D. programs in forestry and changed into a fully fledged institute. A research-based design program to achieve a doctorate is also introduced for those who are interested in the field of forestry. The Institute of Forestry is providing a special chance to make a change in technical and rigid service to the nation in forestry and natural resource management. The Institute of Forestry (IOF) has increased its service by adding nine different master degree programs with M.Phil. and Ph.D. Community Forestry at Pokhara. Institue of Forestry (IOF) is currently associated with NORAGRIC of the Agricultural University of Norway (AUN), implementing the Master of Science in Management of Natural Resources and Sustainable Agriculture (M.Sc. in MNRSA) program partly at Pokhara.

Objectives:

  • To produce self-reliant and practically oriented valuable supply managers who can start their own project in the area of forestry and forest-based businesses and also provide the company that helps business services to other interested people and organizations.
  • To use the valuable supplies of the IOF, explore other possible useful things, and make the IOF a center of superiority in the areas of teaching, research, and extension in forestry.

The students should have I.Sc., Tcl Forestry, diploma in Forestry, +2 Science, A-level or equivalent degree with a 50% marks in aggregate can submit their admission form into the bachelor level program. The student should give the college entrance examination and are selected according to their merits score.

Facilities

Institute of Forestry (IOF) has a well-maintained auditorium building for different formal and informal academic programs. The campus also has a well-managed and well-furnished conference hall for the small conference and small programs. Hostel facility is available for those who like to stay at the college and study. Library facility is also available in Institute of Forestry (IOF) which contains more than 30000 books and governmental documents on forestry and natural resources management, basic science and agriculture. The library provides service from 10 am to 5pm. Institute of Forestry (IOF) library receives around 40 newsletters and journals of forestry and related fields. This College also has museum facility formed for teaching, research and other projects in the forestry-related topics.
