Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) was established in 1997 A.D. with the aim of providing service that is easily accessible, reasonably cheap, and of the highest standards. KMC is conveniently located in Sinamangal, Kathmandu.

KMC is affiliated with Kathmandu University and fully recognized by the Nepal Medical Council and the Sri Lanka Medical Council. KMC offers three courses: Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc. Nursing), and Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).

Former Vice Chairman of Tribhuwan University and previously of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), Dr. Govind Sharma is the CEO, and Prof. Hemang Dixit is the Principal, who was the former Dean of IOM/TU. Kathmandu Medical has been listed in the WHO’s World Directory of Medical Schools. Following full recognition by NMV, KMC is also listed in the International Medical Education Directory (IMED). KMC is an Associate Member of the Network Toward Unity of Health (TUFH).

Objectives:

The primary objective of KMC is to provide quality medical education within a modern academic environment to produce qualified medical professionals who can contribute to society by means of their knowledge, attitude, skills, and professionalism. A student-centered curriculum that is community-as well as problem- and need-based is followed. KMC is quickly developing into a center of excellence, hence setting new standards in medical education and high-quality medical care.

KMC is often known for its excellent academic amenities and Kathmandu Medical Teaching Hospital, where students are given practical training. With a team of dedicated teaching faculty, Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) is focused on providing professional education. KMC provides various facilities for their convenience. The working environment at KMCTH is such that it enables doctors to sit in the postgraduate entrance examinations held by other universities. Many of the graduates, after getting their MBBS qualification, sit for USMLE, PLAB, or the licensing examination of the Medical Council of India.

KMC provides various scholarship schemes to its students according to the University and the college rule. Examination toppers are rewarded with scholarship.

Facilities

Kathmandu Medical offers all the facilities necessary to successfully complete an MBBS or doctoral degree. The medical laboratories are equipped with all the apparatus, chemicals, machines, and other resources. It offers separate hostels for men and women with excellent rooms and necessities, including toilets and cafeterias.

KMC has two spacious libraries: one for basic sciences and the other for clinical sciences. They have an adequate number of books as well as many general, scientific, and medical journals. Multiple copies of text books, an internet connection, and a photocopying facility make it easier for the students and staff to retrieve the desired information. The libraries also have self-learning areas with videos and CD-ROMs for computer-based learning. Additionally, each department has a smaller department library.

To stay advanced and provide students with the best of the latest services, KMC has gone broad-band Wi-Fi, enabling them to access the internet through the wireless router anytime and anywhere in the college. It is wireless-fidelity-enabled. They can now access the internet from anywhere using their wireless devices.

Besides this, they are transported by buses to and from the Basic Science block and to other places of academic activity. It also has a canteen that serves healthy food at very reasonable prices.

Admission Requirements

The admission procedure varies with the program. Student must have passed +2 or intermediate level with a minimum of second division to be eligible to apply for any of the program offered by Kathmandu Medical College (KMC).

Kathmandu Medical College has been offering Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) program since its inception.
