Kathmandu University Department of Language and Mass Communication was established in 2005 to make the intensive four-year Bachelor in Media Studies Program. This program surrounds all specialized field like Television production, film production, radio production, new media, and media research and so on. The main focus of this program is to meet the demand of the skilled and trained manpower in this media organization and other service sectors. Besides combine knowledge in the discipline area, students will get chance to widen their understanding of the uses of information technology. This program Media study is more concerned with the media’s first role in the cultural domain of modern human community. Students are also exposed to different mass communication theories. They get an opportunity to develop the ideas about how things work and professional knowledge on different kinds of media support services including advertising and public relations.
Mass communication media has central place in society, cultural, political, and money based movement of modern human life. Especially for those countries which have entered or are trying to enter the age of information community, mass media provide wide career opportunities. And, since the usual media of communication are today complemented by new technologies, a new generation of media professionals must work in this intersect atmosphere. This college wants to prepare manpower with skills and knowledge to grow and do well in the ever-changing competitive environment.
