Master of Philosophy program gives a strong foundation in research methods and skills that serve as a solid base to enter a career as a professional in their respective field. The Master of Philosophy conducted by the Kathmandu University is a three-semester program out of which initial two semesters involves taught courses and the final semester is meant for preparing thesis which is compulsory. It is a 33 to 36 credit hours course, including core courses, specialization course and research-based dissertation.
The program provides students with an opportunity to choose from five concentration areas to specialize in the course of their interests. The specialization area includes Educational Leadership, Curriculum and Instruction, Development Studies, English Language Education and Mathematics Education. It covers core courses, such as Writing for Professionals, Advanced Qualitative Research Methods, Statistical Methods in Education and Social Science Research, Research Methods in Education and Social Science among others.

Applicants interested in pursuing the Master of Philosophy program should have a master degree in any stream with a minimum of fifty percent marks. However, applicant with Master Degree in Education is given preference. Those who do not hold M.Ed degree might require to take extra courses. Applicant should be able to read and write English fluently and should have knowledge related to computer operation.
Selection Procedures:
Selection is made on the basis of applicants’ academic achievements, entrance test score and performance in oral interview.
Master of Philosophy program aspires to produce highly skilled human resources in an array of areas, such as Educational Planning, curriculum, supervision, management and Administration. The graduates with a degree can work in a number of avenues. They can seek job in areas, including law, insurance, public service, research, consultant, student affairs, HR and interviewer.
