Programs at Nepalgunj Medical College

The various programs are as follows:

MD Anesthesiology(MD Anesthesiology)

KU Affiliated

Nepalgunj Medical College offers a three year MD Anesthesiology program of Kathmandu University. This program will provide knowledge and skills to minimize pain in patients who are going in surgery during the perioperative phase in the Intensive Care Unit. It will allow the use of various anesthetic agents and monitor and maintain vital functions of patients. They can also work in management of hospice and palliative care units and prehabilitation programs.

MD dermatology(MD Dermatology)

KU Affiliated

Nepalgunj Medical College offers a two year MD Dermatology program of Kathmandu University and prepares medical doctors for skin and venereal diseases in patients. They will be able to diagnose and manage common skin diseases, sexually transmitted diseases, apply preventive measures against communicable diseases like venereal disease and leprosy, diseases of skin, nail, hair.

MD(MD Internal Medicine)

KU Affiliated

Nepalgunj Medical College offers a three year MD internal medicine program of Kathmandu University. This program provides comprehensive medicine studies to produce internal medicine physicians who can diagnose, treat and take care of adults who are going with medical problems, chronic illness, and have more than one disease. This program will allow patient care in ambulatory settings and may follow their patients when hospitalized.

MD Obstetrics and Gynecology(MD Obstetrics and Gynecology)

Nepalgunj Medical College offers a three years MD obstetrics and gynecology program of two years from Kathmandu University. It is a postgraduate course in medicine and surgical specialties in female reproductive organs in pregnant and non-pregnant stages. The areas of learning are obstetrics and gynecology pathology, medical and surgical disease, common disorder and systemic disease, infant care, neonatal hygiene, breast feeding, artificial feeding, management of premature child, birth injuries, common disorders. 

MD pediatrics(MD Pediatrics)

Nepalgunj Medical College offers a three years MD Pediatrics program of Kathmandu University. This program provides medical care and treatment of infants, children and teenagers. It allows them to develop skills in diagnostic, clinical, therapeutic, and preventive aspects of child health. It provides comprehensive understanding of nutrition, growth and development, immunization, infectious disease, common pediatric illness, neonatology, emergencies.

MD(MD radiodiagnosis and imaging)

KU Affiliated

Nepalgunj Medical College offers a three year MD radio diagnosis program of Kathmandu University. This program provides studies and skills of modern radiology and imaging techniques and become skilled and competent radiologists to conduct and interpret various diagnostic/ interventional imaging studies. It can conduct and interpret routine and special radiologic and imaging investigations, manage medicine and trauma and specialized fields of knowledge in Neuro, neural, vascular, musculoskeletal, interventional radiology.

MD Pathology(MD Pathology)

Nepalgunj Medical College also offers a three years MD pathology program of Kathmandu University. This program provides skills and knowledge of using body tissue, blood and body fluids and examining them to find out the disease and produce specialists to manage human disease by lab methods. It provides knowledge in scientific and medical areas of clinical pathology, surgical pathology, forensic pathology, general pathology, genetic pathology, hematology, immunopathology and microbiology.

MD Community medicine(MD Community medicine)

KU Affiliated

Nepalgunj Medical College offers a three year MD Community Medicine program of Kathmandu University. It is a three year post graduate program which involves people’s participation and utilizing professional management skills for promotion of health and prevention of disease. It will provide primary, secondary, tertiary level of health care in pandemic, epidemics, community diagnosis or health need assessments. This program will prepare skilled cadres of medical professionals to assess adverse effects of environment conditions on the health of human beings.

MS general surgery(MS General Surgery)

Nepalgunj Medical College offers a three year MS general surgery program at Kathmandu University. This program will provide knowledge to diagnose and appropriately manage common surgical ailments in given situation, provide pre operative, post operative and follow up care, identify condition and call for early surgical intervention, coordinate emergency resuscitative methods, conduct relief measures, participate in National health programs, plan and advise preventive and rehabilitation measures.

BSc Nursing(BSc Nursing)

Nepalgunj Medical College offers Bachelor of Science Nursing program of Kathmandu University. This program provides study in the nursing field for holistic care and human healing process, education, administration and research. It will prepare competent nurses to take care of individuals, families and communities and participate in research activities of the nursing profession. It provides knowledge of prenatal, natal and post-natal care, child health nursing, community health nursing, mental health, applied computer technology, research and statistics with nursing concepts and theories.

MBBS(Bachelor of Medicine Bachelor of Surgery)

Nepalgunj Medical College offers five years six months Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program of Kathmandu University. This program will provide medical knowledge, critical life skills, treatment of diseases, and specialize in a variety of medical fields. It also allows one to have a career in healthcare administration, medical writing and journalism and improves problem solving abilities. It provides knowledge in basic medical science, principles and skills of clinical medicine, and one year of compulsory rotating internship at hospitals and clinics.

Nepalgunj Medical College (NGMC) was established in 1997 A.D. with an MBBS course. Later, the college added a nursing program in 2000 A.D. and a postgraduate program in 2007 A.D. “Excellence in Medical Education” is the motto of the institute since it has sufficient human resources, state-of-the-art facilities with the most modern and sophisticated equipment, and a team of well-qualified professionals in every department. Nepalgunj Medical College is among the recommendations of the Nepal Medical Council, the Medical Council of India, Sri Lanka, and the Medical Councils of SAARC and other countries. It is affiliated with and follows the prescribed curriculum of Kathmandu University. It has its own two well-equipped teaching hospitals in the two main cities of Banke district, with 830 beds in the teaching hospital at Kohalpur and 220 beds in the hospital at Nepalgunj.

After finishing their course at Nepalgunj Medical College, graduates have been known to be working and studying in Nepal, India, the USA, the UK, Australia, and various other nations. The institution is listed in the “World Directory of Medical Schools." Thus, the graduates of this institute can appear in USMILE and PLAB tests in the USA and UK. Many of the graduates have secured more than a 92% success rate in the MCI screening test and have been selected for PG and DNB.
