Master in Social Work | PU

Purbanchal University (PU) offers a Master in Social Work program which falls under the faculty of Humanities and social science. The total duration of this course is 2 years. This program is a professional and academic discipline related to the concern of social welfare and social change. This course helps the individual to enhance the research skill to improve the quality of life and development of the personal, group, family, community, country and world.

The student requires 80% attendance in the class to be eligible to appear in the final semester examination. The student must have to perform all the assigned project works and field works as well. The college will conduct a periodic written assignment, research projects, seminars and presentation during the program session. Field work is the essential part of the program. So, students are meant to spend at least 15 hours weekly on the field work.

Objectives of Master in Social Work

The major objectives of this course are:

  • Provide awareness about socialism, professionalism and enthusiasm in social work
  • Comprehension of social issues and expression of thoughts in a logical manner.

Admission Requirements in Master in Social Work

  • The interested applicant must have to complete either Bachelor’s Degree of a minimum 3 years duration or any equivalent degree from a college/ university/ board recognized by Purbanchal University in any faculty.
  • Candidates must have to complete the bachelor level with minimum score of second division.
  • The students are admitted for this course based on their aptitude, competence and motivation for social work. Previous academic records, written tests, group discussions and personal interview can also help the candidates for their admission in this degree.
  • Students will be selected on the basis of merit list.
  • A merit list is always prepared on the basis of the following division of marks:
  1. 40% of graduation marks
  2. 30% to written tests
  3. 10% to Group Discussion and
  4. 20% to the Interview

The decision of Admission Committee in the matter of selection of candidates will be the final decision.

They can act as experts and conduct research in areas like social policy, human psycho social development, program evaluation, public administration, and international as well as community development.
