Objectives of Bachelor of Social Work

The objectives of studying Bachelor of Social Work program of Tribhuvan University are these:

  • To equip knowledge and professional skills to produce skilled human resources in Nepalese contexts.
  • To identify and be able to provide solutions to major social problems and issues which impede social growth.
  • To optimally manage and utilize social systems and respond to problems and tackle them with management and mobilization of resources.
  • To learn the interdisciplinary functions and areas of social sciences fields, gain knowledge with social ideas and strategies for implementation.
  • To secure human rights of women, children, marginalized and poverty groups of society and build up capacities for elevations and overcome constraints.

Program Structure

BSW is a semester-wise program at TU with a total of 8-semester. The total duration of this program is 4 years. During this program's first and second semesters, students are offered the opportunity to learn basic principles and theories related to social work. Additionally, these semesters build the capability of students to serve the people who have been suffering from the problems. The following semesters of this program help students learn different social work methods and the effective and efficient use of those techniques. In addition to that, students are able to gain the capability to communicate and create co-relationships between various stakeholders. The subjects of this program ensure that students become well-rounded in developing ideas to resolve community problems. The total credit hours of this program are 124. Specializations

There are two major specializations in BSW. One is clinical and another is non-clinical. It will be beneficial for pupils if they discuss with an academic counselor before selecting an elective. In the eighth semester, students can expand their expertise in various subjects as electives. There are 5 subjects with 3 credit hours each. Students can only choose one subject out of these 5. Admission Requirements in Bachelor of Social Work

The Faculty of Humanity and Social Science has established some essential requirements to get admission to the BSW program. Pupils, who have graduated their 12 years of schooling or PCL level degree from the education board that has got recognition from Tribhuvan University can apply for admission. In addition to that, students have to pass the entrance exam conducted by the FOMSS, TU.
Entrance Exam
A one-hour entrance exam is conducted to select the qualified candidate for the BSW program at TU. Students who graduate from this entrance can choose their college of choice to pursue BSW if possible. If this is not feasible then the university will assign the colleges for prospective pupils. The students who are unable to pass this entrance exam will not be eligible to join the BSW program at TU.
 

Eligibility

The candidates interested in applying for the Bachelor of Social Work or BSW course are required to fulfill the following criteria:

  • +2 or equivalent level of education from any board/ institutions/ universities recognized by TU.   
  • Students from any stream can apply for this. But he/ she should have scored at least 45% in the intermediate level.
