Bachelor of Business Administration | TU

Overview

Tribhuvan University’s Bachelor of Business Administration is one of the most sought after management courses in Nepal. One might argue that the Bachelor of Business Studies is more popular, but that can be credited to the lack of barriers to entry. Anyways, the BBA at Tribhuvan University is a course designed to profess the skills required to become high-level management personnel in a business, whatever the nature of the business may be. Because the program is administered by one of the largest and oldest universities in the country, the degree awarded at the end of the program would make it easier for students to realize their academic ambitions both in Nepal and elsewhere in the world.

Admission Requirements in Bachelor of Business Administration

Yes, TU’s BBA program is one of the most popular programs in the country. However, because of the sheer popularity of the program, it is also one of the more competitive programs to get into.
The students are expected to meet criteria set on three different levels before they can enroll in the BBA program. They are as disclosed hence.

Academic Cut-off
Since TU’s BBA covers a wide range of subject matters, students need to have a certain aptitude to make it through the program. As a precautionary measure, the FoM at TU has set certain academic requirements that the students need to meet just to be able to compete for a seat in the program. This is to ensure that the students who might not have the right aptitude for the program don’t end up getting enrolled and dropping out later. Anyways, the criteria are as follows:

  • Students must have competed +2 with a GPA of 1.8 or more with a minimum of D+ in individual subjects.
  • As for students who passed high school or high school diplomas from boards other than NEB, they should have at least passed out in the second division, given that their board is recognized by TU as an NEB +2 equivalent.

If a student meets these standards, they can sign up for an entrance test.

Entrance Test
As is the case with other high-yield management courses offered by TU, the BBA program mandates that students take the CMAT exam. The CMAT exam is a 2-hour long exam with a hundred questions divided into even quarters between four segments—Verbal ability, Quantitative ability, Logical Reasoning, and General Awareness. A student would have to get at least 40 out of the hundred questions right to qualify for admission. However, it should also be taken into consideration that the higher one scores in this test the better their merit would be. So, students should strive to score as high as possible in this segment as it could even cover for some of their academic shortcomings.

Interview
Most colleges that offer TU’s BBA also take interviews of students who have applied after scoring 40 points or higher in the CMAT exam. This is an opportunity for students to make an impression on their faculty and profess their aptitude by answering questions as they come.

Once this is over, the merit of students is calculated on the following 100 point scale:

  • 60% of CMAT Points
  • 30% of marks scored in high school
  • 10% from their performance in the interview.

Specializations

In TU’s BBA program, students are exposed to a wide range of managerial functions and aptitudes. Even so, there is so much to learn that a student has to decide what exactly they wish to learn and how they want to apply that into their professional life later on because one person cannot learn everything about an organization and how it works. That is why the FoM at Tribhuvan University created 5 areas of specialization in BBA.

Once the students lay a foundation in business and administrative understanding in the first few years of the program, they are given a choice of specialization in the latter semesters.

The areas available are as follows:

Regardless of the number of subjects to choose from, the students can only study 6 subjects in their area of specialization. Each subject is worth 3 credit hours adding upto a total of 18 credits for specialization subjects.

Three of these subjects are available in the seventh semester and the remainder is covered in the last semester.
