Post Graduate Diploma in Police Science | TU

The Post Graduate Diploma in Police Science program or PGDPS is introduced to meet the increasing need of competent and adaptive police official capable of handling different tough situations. This degree is compulsory to the newly recruited police inspectors. Students enrolled in this program are expected to exhibit high level of discipline.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Police Science program, conducted by Tribhuvan University (TU), can be completed in 10 months. The coursework comprises both classroom learning and practical training. This degree is based on a semester system, has been divided into two semesters in total, and comprises thirty credit hours. This program has been further divided into two components: courses and non-credit courses administered by the Nepal Police Academy (NPA).

The PGPDS program covers subjects such as special case investigation, crime investigation, crime management, strategic management, research methodology in police science, constitutional and legal studies in Nepal, emerging issues in policing, police operations management, basic police administration, and the foundations of public affairs management. Noncredit courses include Physical Endurance and Confidence Building, Public Order Management, Special Skills Development, Musketry and Firing, Police Tactics and Field Craft, Armed Parade, Primary Parade, and Forensic Science.

Graduation Requirements:

In order to complete PGDPS successfully, there are certain requirements:

  • Students must complete thirty credit hours.
  • Students must score at least a passing grade in all subjects with an aggregate semester grade of 2.0.
  • Students must complete the program within the time frame estimated by Tribhuvan University (TU).

Objectives of Post Graduate Diploma in Police Science

The primary goal of Post Graduate Diploma in Police Science program is to produce creative, socially & ethically responsible and result oriented police officials to fill up the central level posts in police departments of Nepal. The other specific objectives of this program are listed below:

  • Candidates must have to complete bachelor degree in any stream from the college/ university/ board recognized by Tribhuvan University (TU).
  • Fulfill the service condition, or have professional experience in police service.

Selection Procedures:

  • Selection is made on the basis of the applicant's entrance test score.
  • Successful completion of 30 credit hours as prescribed with minimum passing grade in all courses with an aggregate semester grade of 2.0 or letter Grade of C.
  • Completion of the program must be done within the time limit as prescribed by Tribhuvan University (TU).
