First Job Jitters

Finding your first job can be a nerve-wracking experience but, never fear, the NUT is here to help guide you through the process. We’ve outlined a few top tips to steer you in the right direction as you set out to land the job you’ve always wanted.

Finding a Job

Make a list of jobs that you are interested to do. In Nepal finding a job is very easy as you can search some of the popular job portals like merojob.com, jobsnepal.com and more. Along with it you can also contact HR agencies who can offer you your first job based on your skills and interest.

Building your resume

You can easily build your resume using online templates. However, your resume should match the skills required for a job. Do not list skills that are irrelevant to your job requirement. Finally take expert opinion to polish your resume.

Apply for a job

Submitting an application is the next step in the process. You should show your strength to the potential employers. Do not forget
to relate your skills and experiences to match the job requirement. Write a professional cover letter while applying for the job. Avoid spelling and grammatical mistakes. Always inform the people listed in the references about the job.

Prepare for the Interview

Get enough knowledge about the organization and the job role that you are applying. If you don’t have a detailed job description, ask for one. Conduct a basic interview research with most probable questions. Note down the phone number and location of the office properly. Plan a professional outfit for the interview. Always remember to ask employer a question at the end if you are given an opportunity.

Job Offer/ rejection

It is not sure that you will be selected at your first job interview. If you are hired then be sure to take into account the entire compensation package including salary. When accepting job offer, write a polite, formal letter. If you’re rejecting the job offer, a letter will help you maintain a positive relationship with the employer. If you are not hired then don’t give up. Make sure you have a list of other job options to apply.
