With the objective of providing trained manpower in the education sector the Universities of Nepal and abroad have offered Education programs through various Education Colleges of Nepal. The Faculty of Education is the largest faculty of Tribhuvan University which are offering various programs such as B.Ed., MEd, MPhil and Ph.D. with an objective of producing qualified teachers, teaching trainers, education planners and researchers, curriculum designer, Program Coordinators, etc. Over 500 private and public education colleges in Nepal have been providing the aforementioned courses to give emphasis to their teaching methodology as it is interdisciplinary to science, social science and liberal arts faculties.
In the Context of Nepal, Bachelor and Master level programs run at an affordable cost. Besides the regular curricula, education colleges with good physical infrastructure provide project work, debates, seminars, guest lectures from the academicians with high quality credentials to provide a holistic learning environment to their students every year. The tuition fees are also affordable to many groups of people of our society. This promotes a conjugal learning environment with students representing different backgrounds, culture and context to be able to come together in one platform and study together. In our country, the essentials of teachers' role and their training to build the human capital who can enlighten the upcoming generations and serve the society from the seed of knowledge is significant and this studies facilitate the process on the verge of nation building.
For studying Bachelors level (B.Ed.) in education colleges in Nepal, students must have completed 12 years of schooling with D+ in all subjects. Or have completed PCL (Proficient Certificate level) of Tribhuvan University to get admission in B.Ed. program. They must have studied at least one of the specialization areas such as Nepali Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, Science Education, Health and Physical Education, Population Education, Geography, Economics, Political Science or History in HSEB or Plus 2 studies examinations. Four groups in the courses of B.Ed. are communication skills, Professional core areas, Specialization minor, Specialization major and Teaching Internship.
For M.Ed. programs one should have a Bachelor's degree in any discipline and teaching qualification at secondary or higher secondary level.
Graduates of education colleges can have lucrative careers in the academic field and administrative field respectively. By earning a degree they can work for job positions such as Community Education Officer, Education Consultant, Primary School Teacher, Secondary School teacher, Program Coordinator, Teaching Assistant, Foreign Language teacher, Private tutor, Counsellor, Youth worker, and others.
